Get an understanding of how water plays a role in creating sustainable cities.
Through databased storytelling you will get a presentation of global development and understand how a rising population and a changing climate will affect our water resources.
You will be introduced to sustainable city planning as an element of the solution to the climate crisis and HOFOR’s comprehensive utility system as a base for creating a sustainable water utility in a sustainable city.
You will get an understanding of the development of water supply, wastewater treatment and climate adaptation over time, implementation in Greater Copenhagen and the sustainable goals for future supply.
You can choose between three sub-themes:
- Sustainable water supply and wastewater treatment
- Climate adaptation and local solutions
From hidden sewer to water architecture and climate adaptation – the story of Harrestrup Stream:
Get a unique and interactive story about Harrestrup stream as Denmark’s largest climate adaptation project, and experience how architecture can make a difference for climate adaptation of our urban green areas. Feel the water, experience the interactive climate adaptation models, and get a virtual flight tour over the entire Harrestrup stream using our VR glasses.
The project is founded in a unique cooperation between 10 different municipalities and focuses on creating holistic climate adaptation solutions across municipal boundaries, combining green architecture, stormwater management and recreational green urban spaces, for the benefit of the citizens of Greater Copenhagen. The visit is offered as a part of World Capital of Architecture 2023.
Sustainable water supply and wastewater treatment:
With a focus on Denmark’s unique groundwater resource, you will be presented to HOFORs work towards securing a sustainable water and wastewater utility. Get an understanding of the strategies and technologies within HOFORs water utility, and why it is possible to supply 1 million citizens with tap water that has a high chemical quality and taste, and which is certified according to ISO 22000.
You will get an introduction to how HOFOR is working towards lowering water consumption and new technologies such as central softening of drinking water, eliminating several problems for both households and businesses related to the presence of high levels of lime in the water.
Climate adaptation and local solutions:
Get an interactive understanding of the challenges created by cloudbursts and storm surges in the city, and what plans are made for the climate adaptation of Greater Copenhagen. Through infographics and interactive models, you will understand the differences between traditional and holistic climate adaptation solutions, and the advantages of combining climate adaptation with city planning and the synergies that emerges when creating green urban and multifunctional areas for the citizens. ENERGY & WATER’s Collaboratorium of Climate Adaptation will be presented as an example of how citizen involvement plays a key role in the local climate adaptation process.
